What topics are covered?

  • Extraordinary Postal Routes in the Past: Explores the 132-year journey of the world's oldest message in a bottle, the pneumatic tubes of London and Paris, and Tonga's dangerous "Tin Can Mail" where swimmers delivered letters through shark-infested waters.
  • Extraordinary Postal Routes Today: Discover incredible modern postal routes, from the penguin-surrounded post office in Antarctica and underwater mailboxes in Vanuatu to the bell-ringing runners of the Himalayas and the mule caravans of the Grand Canyon.
  • The History of Stamps: Uncover the story of the very first stamp, the Penny Black, and learn why collectors (philatelists) pay millions for misprints like the inverted "Jenny" airplane or the Treskilling Yellow.
  • Homing Pigeons: A fascinating look at pigeon post. Learn how birds navigate using the Earth's magnetic field and read the heroic true story of "Cher Ami," the WW1 pigeon that saved nearly 200 soldiers.
